Paranormal Activity

Jedburgh Jail is a foreboding and creepy place during the day but at night this venue becomes a sinister place that echoes the signs of its violent past. With a heavy and oppressive atmosphere, many have fled investigations on a night or refused to go into certain places. The jail has seen much torture and violence so it is no surprise that the energy still lingers here. Apparitions and dark shadows have been seen and cell doors have slammed shut of their own accord. Flashes of light are regularly seen and cold spots, breezes and blasts of air are felt when they could be no other explanation.

NOT for the faint of heart or easily scared!

Would you be brave enough to join us ?

History of Jedburgh Jail

This Georgian prison was considered one of the most modern in its time. Three prison blocks show life of the period. Look inside individual cells, and experience what an 1820s prison was like.

The Jail was built in 1823 on the site of Jedburgh’s medieval castle, which was destroyed in 1409. The new jail was designed by Archibald Elliot as a Howard Reform prison, a result of agitation by social advocate John Howard. It may look like a medieval castle on the outside, but inside is a different story.

When it was built the Jedburgh prison was considered a model for other gaols. The jail closed in 1868, but almost a century later it was restored and opened to the public as a museum.

An organised investigation, that is led by an investigator, will take place from 22:00 – 03:00. After 03:00 investigators are no longer expected to lead the event and this will time for you to either sleep or carry on the investigation alone. An investigator will be onsite to supervise throughout the whole investigation. You are welcome to use the equipment provided throughout the night.

Guests will be asked to bring their own camp beds, sleeping bags and blankets, Jedburgh Jail can get exceptionally cold and you will need to wrap up warm and come prepared. Guests will be sleeping in the cell blocks of the jail throughout the night.
