Paranormal Activity

The building has always had paranormal activity upon the current owners moving into the property 36 years ago. The first paranormal incident occurred when the owners were moving into the building, which was a former primary school. The painters and builders noticed strange occurrences that they couldn’t explain; things being thrown at them and the apparition of a female child in the building.

Many different things have happened over time with voices been heard, things moving of their own accord, particularly the balls on the snooker table. A teacher that killed herself has been seen around the building in the female toilets and wandering the corridors. Her weeping can be heard by unsuspecting guests that assume it is a person, only to find that there is no one living there.

One terrifying incident that was witnessed by both customers and bar staff sent many people running in fear as a dark board suddenly propelled itself off the wall and into the guest area. Travelling some 7 metres away from the wall. No one was near the board and shocked guests could not explain why the dartboard had flown off the wall at such force. For the bar staff this wasn’t the first time they had witnessed something paranormal they have regularly seen a shadow moving around the bar area, footsteps are heard and glasses break and move without explanation.

The building in which The Snooks is situated was first built in 1848 and in 1853 served as the village’s national school. It remained as a school for many years before the school moved oner the road to a more spacious building to cater for the increase in children requiring education. Whilst the building was a school, one of the female teachers committed suicide by hanging herself in the main school room that is now currently the bar.

During the First World War it is said that the building was used by the Scotts Guards as barracks. Before the current owners bought the property, the building lay dormant for a number of years until it was bought by the current owner in 1986. It was the current owner that renovated the building and changed it into a Snooker Venue and Sports Bar. It is from the onset of their buying the building that the paranormal activity was evident and it has continued throughout the 36 years of the owners being here.
